The Mariana Hollow

Dark Feather Ausgabe 7

Hello Guys! First please tell our readers, who you are!

We are Spinky (Vocals), Danny (Lead Guitar), Richie (Rhythm Guitar and Backing Vocals), Scott (Bass) and Adam (Drums and Backing Vocals).

The Mariana Hollow

What means for you your name „The Mariana Hollow“?

'The Mariana Hollow' is the name given to the deepest part of the ocean, found within the Pacific Ocean near Japan.  For our band we wanted a name that related to the sea/ocean and that reflected the mood of the music.  When we first wrote songs with this band a few people said it reminded them of the ocean, so that's where the inspiration for the name came from.  We feel it's a pretty epic name, and one which suits the atmosphere and style of our music.

Your Music contains a good mix between Alternative-Rock and some kinds of Metal with an interesting female voice. From what bands you are influenced, who are your faves?

We have been influenced individually by an enormously wide range of bands! We have a very diverse musical taste overall, which probably goes towards making our sound quite original.

We each chose a band that has inspired us in the past and it came out as follows; Alice in Chains, A Perfect Circle, Foo Fighters, Human Waste Project and Opeth.

Your current line up exist since about one and a half year. How long actually does exist the band in general? When were the first steps in this case?

The Mariana Hollow have been together as a band for 18months.  Richie and Danny were the first members of the band to start writing and rehearsing together and one by one, through online searching, the rest of us came into the picture.  I (Spinky) joined last, in May 2008 and that summer was when things started to cement for us.  We came up with our name, started writings lots, and preparing for our first gigs.  We'd all been in bands previously, and had various other musical projects, but I think we agree that this band has changed things for all of us.  We know that we want to take this band as far as we can because we are so passionate about it and really feel it has potential.  For me personally it's the first time i've really clicked with other musicians and that is a great feeling.

You have already strong music-material and very great songs. What about your debüt-album?

We have just completed our debut album 'Coma Heart' and it is out now to buy online! So go check it out!!!!!!!!!  You can find it at itunes, play, amazon, etc.  We're really proud of our debut as we worked incredibly hard on it and the songs mean a lot to us.  They were chosen from a collection of the first songs we wrote together in 2008.  We just hope it is received well, and that people will enjoy it, because we're looking forward to making a second album at the moment!

Please tell our readers, how to imagine a Marianna Hollow Show?
I guess the one word to descibe our live shows would be passionate.  We really care and believe in the songs that we write together and it's important to us that we put that across to the audience.  We're quite a melodic band, so even though the music may seem quite dark and moody sometimes, there are certainly some spine-tingling moments!!  We also love metal (a lot!) so there's a fair amount of riffage and hair flying to counteract the quieter moments!

What are your plannings for the future?

We plan to carry on writing and playing live as much as we can, just to continue keeping our name out there and in people's minds!  We want to record a second album at some point soon.  We would love the chance to go on tour around the UK, and Europe eventually, as this is a dream of all of ours!  We would love to play in Germany one day - that would be awesome!  We just want to be able to make music for a living and be able to quit the 9-5 jobs we have; they pay the bills but they wear us down at the same time!

Ultimately - what were your best, bad and crazy experiences until now with The Mariana Hollow?

Hmm... Our best experience so far would have to be playing The Islington Academy in London.  We were supporting Project Pitchfork (from Hamburg!). It was an amazing gig for us, and the biggest show we've played.  We had a lot of people there to support us and the whole night was really special.  Our worst experience as a band would probably be seeing our drummer's arse *constantly*!  As for crazy...well, I think we're yet to have our *craziest* experiences together when we go on tour; when we look forward to all kinds of chaos and debauchary!  So we'll leave that to the next interview! haha

Thank you very much fort this interview, the last words are yours!:

Many thanks Holger!
